visible        5700K   h = 0 km; the solar "surface"

magnetograms   5300K   h = a few hundred km above the solar 
                           "surface"

H-alpha       10,000K  h = 1000 - 10,000 km above the solar 
                           "surface"

X-ray      1,000,000K  h = 1000 - 1,000,000 km above the solar 
	to 5,000,000K      "surface"
