WC06 - "Sun on Earth"

Air Date: February 8, 2000

Hosted by Paul Mortfield

This show will highlight the important and sometimes violent affects that our Sun has on Earth. In particular, we'll discuss the affects of solar flares and CME's on the Earth's magnetosphere. We'll also investigate whether the affects of the upcoming Solar Maximum will plague our communications satellites and knock out pager and cell phone reception.. Check the show times at NASA Quest for the show that fits your grade level. We have also developed a great set of classroom activities that go with this show topic. You can access them below.

Solar Astronomer Dr. Neal Hurlburt, from the Lockheed-Martin Solar & Astrophysics Laboratory in Palo Alto, California, will be our guest to provide his expertise in this area and answer students questions live from the chatroom.
